Roan van de Moosdijk returns with a bang

F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team’s Roan van de Moosdijk returned to FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship action with a solid eighth place in the Sardinian GP at Riola Sardo.

The Dutch youngster was racing for the first time in two months after suffering a broken scaphoid in July but already showed during morning Qualifying that he had lost none of his pace as he earnt eighth gate-pick. A second-turn crash in race one when the after-market starting device stuck down put him at the back of the field, but it was not long before he was pushing the top ten. He moved forward to eleventh after ten minutes and only surrendering the position six laps from the end to the morning’s fast qualifier. Rounding the first turn twelfth in race two he advanced to ninth in a spectacular opening lap and made two further passes before the chequered flag to finish an impressive seventh and claim eighth overall on the day. Next weekend VDM will represent his country in the annual FIM Motocross of Nations at Mantova on the Italian mainland; The Netherlands are the defending champions.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “In the first moto I crashed at the second turn when my holeshot device stayed down, but in three laps I was almost in the top ten. The second moto I didn’t quite find my normal rhythm so I’m a little disappointed as I felt so good when we went training on Wednesday.“

Bike It MTX Kawasaki’s Wilson Todd raced to his third consecutive top-ten finish despite a collision halfway through race two which cost him a probable top six on the day. The Australian fluctuated between sixth and seventh throughout the first moto, surrendering a place only to absolute sand experts on a couple of occasions but recovering the positions as others paid the penalty for riding over their heads in the demanding deep sand. He held a solid fifth place through the early laps of race two but a collision with another rider resulted in him crashing over a berm; rejoining the race sixteenth he pulled back one position before the end of the race to secure tenth overall on the day.

Wilson Todd: “I didn’t have the best gate-pick but I got out of the gate good and came round the first corner well so I was up near the front at the start of both motos. I stayed up there the first one, but around about lap three of the second race I came together with another rider, went over a berm and put myself on my head. It was hot and the track was rough, so I guess it was hard work for everybody today. “

Mathys Boisrame had shockingly bad luck on the opening lap of each moto. In the first race he was dragged to the ground in a collision at the first turn but charged hard with good speed for the entire thirty-five minutes to recover from last to fourteenth. In the second race he was cannoned from behind by another rider, slitting open a finger which needed medical treatment. Mathys is another F&H rider to be chosen to represent their country next weekend at the Motocross of Nations, where he will race a KX450 in the Open class for France.

Mathys Boisrame: ”I had two difficult starts today. In the first race I was involved in a crash at the first corner, then I came back from last to fourteenth. I was happy with my riding and my feeling for the track so I was confident for race two but unfortunately another rider hit me in the second corner; one finger was cut open in the crash so the race was over for me. This week I will train on a KX450 as that is the bike I will race at the MX of Nations with the French team; I can’t wait to be there."

F&H team colleague Mikkel Haarup was advancing solidly from a sixteenth-placed start in the opening moto until a slip cost him a couple of places but the young Dane regrouped to eventually finish fifteenth. He was again moving forward quickly to nineteenth in race two before being forced to pull out. Mikkel will also represent his country at the “Nations” next weekend.

Mikkel Haarup: “I actually had a good rhythm in Qualifying but a few mistakes on my best lap cost me a better time. I just got a bad start in the first race but I tried my best and scored some points. I got a really good jump in race two but had to pull out. “
