Riding on their Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team’s home asphalt, both riders were motivated to overcome the hot track conditions that they experienced over 18-laps.
Montella, riding at his own home round in Italy, attacked early and was in second place for four laps; then in third place for a further two.
Can had to work his way forward in a group behind the leading riders, eventually catching and then passing his team-mate Yari on lap nine.
At the end of the race Öncü led a four rider group over the line, in fifth place, with Montella two places and just over one second behind his team-mate. The race was won by points leader Dominique Aegerter.
After four rounds of the championship Can is fourth overall, on 80 points, and Yari is sixth with 62 points. Yari is just one point behind the rider in fifth place after his two strong Misano points scores.
After Misano Round Five of the FIM Supersport Championship will take place at Donington Park in the UK, between 15-17 July.
Can Öncü, stated: “Of course nothing is easy and we tried to our limit today. We are strong and our team never gives up, I never go up, so I am happy about that. We will get better and better at every race. I have never ridden at Donington before and I think this can be something positive. We have one month off now, and I am angry about this because we have to wait one month before I can get on the podium again.”
Yari Montella, stated: “Although we’re not happy with the race result, today was a positive day. It was a difficult race, but we definitely took a step forward compared to yesterday. We started strongly and were part of the leading group for a good while. Only a drop in front tyre performance prevented me from fighting for the podium all the way to the end. We’re improving, but we need to continue to work and focus. I’m sure that the team and I will do just that.”
Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) was 15th in Race Two at Misano, and he now sits tenth overall in the championship with 41 points scored in his rookie season so far.
Ben Currie (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) was 26th in Race Two, with his team-mate Jeffrey Buis 27th.
